Bob Lutz: Global Warming Is a Crock, But GM's Still Doing the Right Thing

Maximum Bob is more than a little surprised by the uproar he caused by calling global warming is "a crock of sh*t," and he says the people who got their panties in a twist over it are missing the point.

Lutz says his thoughts on global warming "are immaterial" and no more - or less - valid than the next guy's. What's more, he says on his blog, they don't mean squat because General Motors is doing the right thing anyway.

"General Motors is dedicated to the removal of cars and trucks from the evironmental equation, period," GM's vice chairman writes. "And, believe it or don't, so am I! It's the right thing to do, for us, for you and, yes, for the planet. My goal is to take the automotive industry out of the debate entirely. GM is working on just that - and we're going to keep working on it - via E85, hybrids, hydrogen and fuel cells and the electrification of the automobile."

Say what you will about Lutz, but he is the driving force behind the Chevrolet Volt, a range-extended electic vehicle that could revolutionize the industry. As long as Lutz gets that car into showrooms - and he's pretty much made it clear that nothing short of divine intervention is going to keep that from happening by 2010 - we don't care what he thinks about global warming.
