Formula 1, widely considered the pinnacle of automotive engineering but woefully behind in environmentalism, is reportedly considering a switch to ethanol.

Coskata Inc. will begin making cellulosic ethanol from agricultural waste and other biomass at a demonstration plant that could turn out 40,000 gallons of the stuff a year. That's little more than a rounding error in the 9 billion gallons of ethanol that must be produced under the federal renewable fuels standard, but Coskata says it will lay the groundwork for a larger plant that will produce 50 to 100 million gallons a year by 2011.
