Another Breakthrough in Aircraft Fuel Cell Technology
Europe's aviation establishment continues to push the limits of fuel cell technology.
This past week, an Antares motor glider became the first manned aircraft to take off and land using only a fuel cell to power its electric engine. DLR, Germany's national aviation research body, conducted the test in partnership with BASF and Denmark's Serenergy,
a company that designs fuel cell stacks and power modules. While it's unlikely that fuel cells will ever be used to propel commercial aircraft, researchers believe the technology could be used for electrical systems and axillary power.
Breaker, Breaker: Peterbilt's Fuel Cell APU Means No Idling at Wally World

So you're a trucker stinging from high fuel prices. You don't want to back off the hammer and do double-nickel in the granny lane, nor do you want to turn off the AC in the sleeper cab on a hot Texas night. Mazda says it will cut the fuel consumption of its cars 30 percent by 2015 in a sweeping campaign that will see the automaker replace almost every engine in its lineup, shave at least 220 pounds from every car it builds and continue developing its hydrogen hybrid.
516-Mile Range In A Fuel Cell Vehicle You Can't Fuel

With all of the Prius hybrids on the road these days and Toyota's emphasis on gas-electric drivetrains, it's easy to forget the company is a big player in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles - and it's developed one that sets a benchmark for range.
Who's Driving the Hydrogen Highway?
California's on-again, off-again hydrogen highway seems to be on again, thanks to $7.7 million ponied up by the Air Resources Board last week. It's chump change. And it reflects the state's ambiguous, cash-strapped and corrupt approach to lowering emissions.
Boeing Fuel Cell-Powered Plane Takes Flight
In an aviation first, Boeing announced this week that it has successfully flown a manned airplane powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The tests took place in February and March at an airfield south of Madrid.
